Preparing Your Workforce for the AI Evolution: Three Key Strategies

GettyImages-2154859655Artificial Intelligence is no longer exclusive to tech giants. Most organizations, regardless of size or industry, have either adopted AI or plan to do so soon. But how does the American workforce feel about AI's growing presence in the workplace? On one hand, 19% of American workers are eager to join companies that embrace AI and automation, but on the other, 17% express concerns about how much AI they may have to use. Despite these mixed feelings, the reality is that the technology is coming regardless, and companies that ignore it risk falling behind. So how can organizations adopt this technology while ensuring their workforce is fully prepared? Let’s explore.

1. HirE AI Experts to Train your Workforce

While many of the world’s greatest business leaders and, understandably, AI innovators are thrilled about what this technology can do to their business, some workers who will be executing on the visions of these leaders are wary about how AI may impact them in their current jobs. That’s why having experts on staff to create and/or deploy AI tools across an organization should be a priority for company leaders. So, what does that look like in practice?

There are two types of AI experts, and some companies may need one or both. The first group focuses on creating and customizing AI technology for specific use. The second group consists of change management professionals who help organizations deploy AI and ensure employees know how to use it effectively. Companies developing their own technology will need both skill sets, while those using existing AI software will only require the transformation experts.

2. Give Opportunities for your Workforce to Obtain AI Certifications

Giving your workforce the chance to earn AI certifications goes hand in hand with hiring AI experts for training. When you bring in these experts, you create a supportive space for learning that encourages upskilling. Certification programs help employees build their skills and ease apprehensions about the growing influence of AI in the workplace. As they gain knowledge and confidence, they’ll be more likely to embrace innovative tools.

Plus, providing opportunities to obtain AI certifications via classes or seminars will help attract talent to your organization. In fact, 22% of American workers say they’d be more likely to join a company that includes AI training in its employee development program.

3. Set Clear Expectations about Company AI Usage

During the hiring process, being transparent about the level of AI usage at your company, and more specifically for the role in question, is critical. Candidates want a clear picture of what to expect when it comes to AI. According to recent data, 19% of employed Americans would want to know how often a company, they are considering working for, uses AI before accepting a position. Therefore, companies should clearly outline AI usage in job descriptions, interviews, and onboarding materials to attract and retain the best talent.
