Our Predictions on the Trends to Look for at CWS

Staffing, recruiting strategies and contingent labor management are all changing rapidly. At this year’s Staffing Industry Analysts’ Contingent Workforce Strategies (CWS) Summit and CW Solutions Forum you’re likely to see how some of those changes might impact your company.

Beyond the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the recent Browning-Ferris National Labor Relations Board ruling, there are many other day-to-day considerations to make when running a contingent labor program. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Today, there are so many different types of “non-employees” in the workforce. These are workers who are not your employees, but are working for you and with you. If you don’t have a handle on who they are and where they are – and how to manage them – you could be introducing risk, costs or in-efficiencies into your organization.

• Statement of Work (SOW) is ready for managing – This is related to folding your SOW workers into a contingent labor program or Vendor Management System (VMS). Since this work is more project-based, and different than traditional temporary work (or at least it should be), there are different ways to manage it. While it would seem natural to manage it though an MSP or VMS, many companies still do not. At CWS, you can find out why this may or may not work for your company.

• Having to Re-Build Your Business Case – After the great recession, there was a slowdown in the need for managing non-employee workers. Fast forward to today and there are more of them than ever in the workforce. And, they are not just fill-ins or “temporary” as the name sometimes suggests. This leaves the owners of non-employee processes in HR and Procurement with the responsibility for re-building, re-tooling or just plain re-stating the need for a contingent labor program. Find out how companies are moving their programs forward in our new economy.

• MSP and RPO: Many companies still not convinced – There are many overlapping reasons why you might have one company help you with both your contingent labor and your direct hiring. But often, there are challenges with one or both sides of the equation. There are, however, companies that are taking advantage of this.
