CWS Summit podcast: Daniel Pink on workforce management and motivation

Written by Guest Blogger | October 3, 2010

The keynote address at the 2010 CWS Summit was delivered by best-selling author Daniel Pink. Using his new book, "Drive," as the centerpiece for his talk, Daniel discussed the science of motivation. I was happy to have had the opportunity to hear him speak, especially since his topic reinforced so much of what we've been writing about over the last several months.

Daniel helped articulate the reality that management techniques of bygone eras might not be best applied today. Not that the traditional techniques are not useful, but he appropriately pointed out that they are mostly about gaining compliance from a workforce and not so much about optimizing input and value.

Daniel identifies three key areas critical to increasing the motivation of today's workforce: autonomy, master, and purpose.

I was able to catch up with Daniel after his talk, and he was gracious enough to give me an interview. Listen below.
