Career Turning Points: A Conversation with Amy Williams

At Yoh, we know that a company’s most valuable resource is its people. They catalyze industry innovation and create company culture. And everyone has a unique story to tell.

In our Career Turning Points series, we are meeting the people that bring Yoh’s expert staffing solutions to life, highlighting the experiences that have shaped their careers and hearing what inspires them – in and out of the office.

Our first conversation is with Amy Williams, Digital Marketing Manager.

Q: Tell us about your career journey. How did you end up in your current role at Yoh?

A:

As a professional, I constantly seek out new challenges and new opportunities to develop my talents, learn and grow. This pathway is what ultimately brought me to Yoh – and what’s kept me here for a decade. After studying Media Communications in college, I started my career as an administrative professional at an architectural firm. Following five years of professional development, I felt prepared for a new opportunity and joined the Yoh team. I started as an administrative assistant, but it was important to me to not be pigeonholed in one particular silo. After expressing my desire to take on more marketing and content development responsibilities, my manager worked closely with me to carve a path that allowed me to explore my interests and push me to chart the best path for my career, while also providing the most value to Yoh. In the years that followed, my managers continued to anticipate opportunities and find new growth-oriented challenges to help me advance my career.

Q: How did your experience at Yoh make you a more confident, skilled professional?

A:

My colleagues and leadership at Yoh have constantly empowered me – personally and professionally – to pursue my passions and own my success. When I expressed interest in pursuing marketing and content development, they provided me with the opportunities I needed to prove my ability to step up into the new role. While there are certainly challenges when taking on any new position, I was supported and nurtured by my team and because of that, I was truly able to master creating compelling narratives about nuanced topics for multiple verticals in our enterprise. That experience, in particular, truly made me know that I was in the right place and that, at Yoh, there is no limit to my options.

Q: If someone is considering a career at Yoh, what advice would you give them?

A:

Yoh’s structure and culture is built around fostering long-term careers, not just jobs. Leadership recognizes talent and invests in development. As such, anyone considering a career at Yoh should always keep an open mind and proactively seek out learning opportunities. If there is an area of the business you want to learn more about, work with your leadership crew to develop a pathway that will help you achieve your goals. Most importantly, be yourself and maintain balance. Yoh’s culture is comprised of individuals from all walks of life, and we come together to form a supportive community that motivates people to be their best selves in and out of the office. Yoh’s success truly is fueled by our team members, but leadership constantly encourages a healthy balance and taking time for out-of-the-office interests. For me, that’s pursuing my passion for theatre and music as President of The Savoy Company.
