The New Year is here, and it's full of excitement and change. There are a few things that will help ensure 2014 is even more successful than 2013…

Schedule Recurring Meeting Reminders

Is there a resource document or file that may be impacted by future changes? Would targeted invitations to new staff increase participation in monthly training sessions? These are sometimes nice “to-do’s” and areas where gaps can arise, but by taking the time now to think ahead about what MAY impact tools and processes next year, we can delight our customers. Simply adding a recurring quarterly reminder to review documents and setting this time far in advance can help make your time more manageable & productive when that day actually arrives. You’ll thank your “past” self…

Stay “In-The-Know”

Often at this time of year industry leaders hold year in review calls or publish free white papers etc. Join these & be a sponge – even if the topic only impacts part of your job responsibilities, this will help you to be more knowledgeable about the broader landscape of your business and to identify areas of opportunity to cross reference in your day-to-day tasks.

Set Goals & Expectations for Yourself and Your Team

This applies to both your long term 2014 goals as well as your short-term monthly & quarterly milestones which are necessary to help you reach that seemingly distance year end destination. We can take this time to remind employees of how their contributions impact the organization and re-frame important tasks based on the company’s goals for the New Year. If these details can be translated into a visual more tangible format such as an infographic or a roadmap, this can help us by nature as human beings understand why we’re there, what we expect to accomplish together and have a better expectation and understanding of how that will occur. This is a great confidence booster… as is the final item…

Celebrating!

This has likely been mentioned elsewhere but it’s so important to set aside time in advance to rally around each other to celebrate our accomplishments at various points throughout the year. 2013 was a great year but technology continues to evolve and everyday there are new discoveries to be made.
